La pérdida de su madre hace a Max un niño muy especial. Vive con su padre y su abuelo, enfermo, ocupándose de él mientras el padre llora la ausencia de su esposa, hundido en su dolor. Un accidente deja a padre y abuelo solos. El padre irá aprendiendo día a día a superar y aceptar la nueva situación, descubriendo pequeñas cosas que le harán volver a ser feliz, ayudando a su padre enfermo a disfrutar también del regalo que es la vida.
